Welcome to the Marion Military Institute’s Admissions Department.  The Admissions Office is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and weekends by appointment only. Please call 800-664-1842 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Welcome:
We welcome you to visit our campus and observe the school's programs in operation. Candidates for admission must be of good moral character and must demonstrate potential for scholastic success.

It is essential that all candidates for admission, parents or legal guardians understand the policies of Marion Military Institute and agree to comply with these policies. Marion Military Institute does reserve the right to deny admission to any prospective student for any reason at any point during the matriculation process.

In addition to the completed application, the following must be submitted:
   • $40 Application Fee
   • Copy of Birth Certificate or Proof of U.S. Citizenship
   • Copy of Social Security Card
   • Copy of Immunization Record
   • Copy of all High School and College Transcripts
   • Verification of ACT or SAT Scores 

To prepare for freshman admission:
Prospective Cadets should take a standardized test (SAT or ACT) during the spring of their junior year and the fall of their senior year.
Send SAT scores to Marion Military Institute (code 1447), send ACT scores to Marion Military Institute (code 0026).

High school graduation is a condition of admission.  Applicants with all items necessary to complete an application on file may gain admission in one of four ways:

(1) Direct nomination by one of the five U.S. Service Academies;
(2) Early Action;
(3) Academic Review;
(4) other

June 10
Report date for Cycle 4 Tiger Camp (June 10-16).  Upon completing Tiger Camp, Cycle 4 cadets will leave MMI  for Ft.Knox, KY (by charter bus) on June 16th, Cycle 4 cadets will graduate from Ft. Knox on July 13, 2008.

June 14
Report date for Cycle 5 Tiger Camp (June 14-20).  Upon completing Tiger Camp, Cycle 5 cadets will leave MMI  for Ft.Knox, KY (by charter bus) on June 20th, Cycle 5 cadets will graduate from Ft. Knox on July 17, 2008.

August 14
All new Service Academy Prep (SAP) cadets will in-process between 8:00am (CST) - 1:00pm (CST), on Thursday, 14 August 2008.  Please report to the Ireland Center upon arrival to campus.

August 15
All ECP, AFROTC, PLC and Basic Cadets in-process between 8:00am (CST) - 1:00pm (CST), on Friday, 15 August 2008.  Please report to the Ireland Center upon arrival to campus.

(1) Service Academy Nomination - Applicants who are nominated by one of the five U.S. Service Academies will be automatically admitted to MMI and notified of this decision as soon as their completed applications are reviewed.

Minimum college Preparatory Course Work for (2) Early Action or (3) Review admission:

Years Subject/Courses
4 English I, II, III, and IV
3.5 Algebra I, II, Geometry (and more advanced math recommended)
3 With two years from Biology I, Chemistry I, or Physics I
3 U.S. History, Government, World History, etc.

(2) Early Action-Up to 500 applicants who have the minimum college preparatory course work and the following class rank and test score combination are admitted as soon as their application is complete.  March 1, 2008 is the closing date.

The following are considered in the review:

  • class standing, performance on the SAT I or ACT and the level of perparation for college beyond minimum high school course requirements;
  • academic potential by considering past academic performance and the context in which that academic performance was achieved;
  • leadership or exceptional talent as shown in extracurricular activities and/or work;
  • individual circumstance that may have influenced or would enhance understanding of the applicant's academic record or any other factor such as bilingual proficiency, exceptional work or family responsibility the applicant wishes to present in the application;
  • ROTC scholarship or athletic scholarship recipients;
  • documented interest in the ROTC program at MMI;
  • family educational background and household income;
  • recommendations which validate or certify leadership, exceptional talent, or special circumstances.
  • Alabama residency, to assure a class of 50% Alabama residents.

Applicant reviews will be completed in two cycles-one for those applications completed and on file by March 1, and another for those application completed and on file by August 1.

 

(4) Other Admissions-A limited number of applicants who do not have the college preparatory course work or do not meet the listed criteria may be admitted, typically through a Probationary Period that requires close monitoring by a faculty advisor.  These decisions consider the same factors as those listed previously in the Review category.
