MMI Defeats Jeff Davis CC at Home

(2/8/2010) - MMI defeated Jeff Davis CC for the first home victory of the season to improve their record to 5-1.  Freshman Luis Pollorena got the win for Marion, giving up 3 hits, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, and 3 runs in 7 innings of work.  Scott Delaney pitched two innings in relief, giving up 3 hits and 1 run. Leading the tigers at the plate were Brad Hedges (2 for 4, 1 run), Craig Herrmann (2 for 3, 3 runs), Chris Allen (2 for 4, 2 RBIs), Jarius Brown (3 for 5, 2 runs, 3 RBIs), Blake DeBacher (2 for 4, 1 RBI), Jon Carnahan (1 for 4, 1 RBI), Christian Castro (2 for 3, 2 runs), Ryan Hudnall (1 for 2, 1 run, 1 RBI), and Evan Harris (1 for 4, 2 RBIs).


MMI Splits Games on the Road

(2/6/2010) - The Marion Military Institute travelled this weekend to compete against two Alabama Community College teams, Jeff Davis CC and Central Alabama CC.  In the first game, the tigers from Marion lost a close contest against Jeff Davis 3 to 4.   Marion was up 3 to 2 going into the 7th inning but Jeff Davis collected two runs to give Marion its first loss of the season.  Jordan Langley pitched 7 innings giving up 3 hits, 3 walks and 2 runs while Jandy Sena pitched in relief, giving up 4 walks and 2 runs to record the loss.  Brad Hedges (2 for 3, 1 run), Zachary Vick (1 for 3, 2 RBIs), Blake DeBacher (1 for 2), and Christian Castro (2 for 2, 2 runs) led the tigers at the plate.

In the second game of the day, Marion defeated Central Alabama CC behind the strong pitching tandem of Jonathan Jones and Ryan Hudnall, giving up 9 hits and 6 runs in 8 innings of work.  Jandy Sena got the save, pitching 1 inning, giving up zero hits, runs or walks.  Leading the tigers at the plate were: Brad Hedges (3 for 4, 3 runs), Craig Herrmann (2 for 5, 1 RBI), Chris Allen (1 for 3, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Jarius Brown (2 for 5, 1 run, 2 RBIs), Blake DeBacher (1 for 3), Luis Pollorena (2 for 5, 1 RBI), Christian Castro (1 for 3, 1 RBI), and Evan Harris (2 for 3, 1 run, 2 RBIs).


MMI Baseball Sweeps NMMI in Opening Baseball Series

(1/31/2010) - The Marion Military Institute baseball team travelled to Texas this past weekend to play their rival military junior college New Mexico Military Institute. In the first of the 3-game series Marion jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind strong pitching from Jonathan Jones. Marion scattered 13 hits on the way to the 5 to 2 victoryBrad Hedges went 2 for 5 with 4 RBIs to lead the tigers. Jarius Brown went 2 for 4 while Chris Allen, Blake DeBacher and Luis Pollorena each had one hit in the victory.
 
In the second game Marion fell behind early and took a 3 to 1 deficit into the bottom of the 7th inning. Blake DeBacher and Christian Castro led the tigers in their comeback win each going 2 for 3 from the plate and scoring two runs. Jon Carnahan and Frank Mora each scored a run in the 4-3 victory.
 
In the final game of the series Marion jumped out to a quick 4 run lead that was never relinquished. Jarius Brown (3 for 3, 1 run) and Christian Castro (2 for 2, 2 runs) led the tiger attack for a 5 to 1 victory.
