Major Dee Broadwater graduated from Marion Military Institute in May 1981 and received a commission in the US Army through the Early Commissioning Program. At MMI he was a Swamp Fox and Morgan’s Raider. Major Broadwater completed his baccalaureate degree at Auburn University before entering active duty as an Infantry Officer at Fort Benning, Georgia.
 
Major Broadwater’s troop assignments included platoon leader, company executive officer and Battalion S4 in the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas and Battalion S3-Air, Company Commander and Assistant Brigade S3 in the Third Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany. He also served as the Range Operations Officer at the Grafenwoehr Training Area, Grafenwoehr, Germany and commanded a US Army Recruiting Company in Santa Rosa, California.
 
He departed active duty during the drawdown of forces following Desert Storm and began working as a military contractor in the Middle East. His jobs included training the Royal Saudi Land Forces in infantry tactics and Bradley Fighting Vehicle gunnery in Saudi Arabia, gunnery trainer for the Kuwait National Guard in Kuwait, and trainer to the Afghan National Army in Kabul and Kandahar, Afghanistan. His most recent position was at Camp Buehring, Kuwait where he was the team leader of a training team who taught all US Army Brigade and Battalion battle staffs deploying to Iraq on the latest Counter-Insurgency and Counter Improvised Explosive Device techniques used in theater.
 
Major Broadwater is presently serving as the Commandant of Cadets at MMI.  He has three daughters; Nancy, Mary and Emily and one son, Joe, a high school senior in the MMI Corps of Cadets.
