1st MMI Naval ROTC Prep Scholarship Awarded
Returning sophomore Grant Lewis, of Tuscaloosa, made MMI history on Aug. 6, 2020 as the first ever recipient of a Naval ROTC Prep scholarship awarded by the National Naval Officers Assoc. (NNOA). MMI is participating in the Naval ROTC Prep Program this year with 7 total scholarship slots for qualified MMI students interested in a Naval officer path and a four-year NROTC Scholarship. For the 2020-2021 academic year, there are 21 follow-on universities nationwide participating as transfer schools. From the MMI Board Room, with his father, Ray Lewis by his side, Cadet Lewis participated in the NNOA 48th Annual Leadership & Professional Development Symposium Zoom web conference on Aug. 6. As the final event of the Symposium that day, Cadet Lewis was publicly congratulated on his scholarship selection by RADM Sinclair Harris, USN (Ret), President of the NNOA.
Cadet Lewis will serve as Echo Company Commander at MMI this fall. A Navy career appeals to him because he “wants to be part of something bigger than himself.”
***There is still one more NNOA Scholarship available to a deserving and qualified MMI cadet who wishes to pursue a Naval Officer commission through the NROTC – Prep Program.***
