Ranger Challenge

The purpose of the Ranger Challenge Program is to challenge cadets in tough mental and physical competition, enhance leader development, develop team cohesion, develop healthy competition among the battalions, and provide a highly visible and dynamic recruiting and retention vehicle. Ranger Challenge is described as the varsity sport of ROTC.  The team is comprised of the top cadets in the Battalion who compete against other colleges and universities in events such as: patrolling, marksmanship, weapons assembly, one-rope bridge, grenade assault course, Army Physical Fitness Test, Land navigation, and a ten kilometer road march. The Ranger Challenge Tab is the only Department of The Army individual qualification tab awarded exclusively to Reserve Officers’ Training cadets, and approved by the Institute of Heraldry. This award is presented annually to cadets who compete in regional ROTC Ranger Challenge competitions.
