Marion Military Institute Patriot Pipeline
The Patriot Pipeline is a new partnership between Marion Military Institute, Army ROTC, and the United States Congress to give Alabama’s congressional delegation a direct role in shaping the next generation of Army leaders.

On October 23rd, 2025, Colonel David Mollahan, the 16th President of Marion Military Institute, and Lieutenant Colonel Joshua Hollingsworth, the Professor of Military Science, signed the Ten-Year Strategic Partnership Agreement in support of the MMI Patriot Pipeline.
What is the Patriot Pipeline?
- Each year, the Professor of Military Science is authorized to award Army ROTC scholarships to attend MMI — the nation’s oldest Military Junior College and one of only four authorized to host the Army ROTC Early Commissioning Program (ECP).
- Through the Patriot Pipeline, Alabama’s Members of Congress may nominate qualified students from their districts to be considered for these scholarships.
Why it matters to Alabama and its constituents:
- Educational Opportunity: Alabama students can access a scholarship covering tuition and fees, along with a monthly ROTC stipend and book allowance. MMI will offer free room and board to all Patriot Pipeline selectees.
- Career Launch: After two years at MMI, cadets commission as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard. They then complete their bachelor’s degree at a four-year university with Army tuition funding.
- Direct Benefit to Alabama: This program ensures that students from every district in Alabama have a pathway into Army leadership. Families gain access to a low-cost route to higher education and officer careers, while Members of Congress can point to a visible investment in their constituents’ futures and national service.
Patriot Pipeline nominations are aligned with existing Service Academy nomination procedures. Please contact your Senator’s or Congressional Representative’s office for more information on applying.
