Ala-Tom Awards $8,000 Grant to MMI Biology

MMI is honored to announce an $8,000 Ala-Tom grant award for the acquisition of essential microbiology consumable tools, aimed at enhancing the classroom experience for students. We look forward to empowering students with the tools they need to explore the fascinating world of microorganisms!

Being able to use the new equipment this Spring 2024 semester, Joy Roche, MMI Biology Instructor, writes: “This grant has had a profound impact on our microbiology laboratory, enabling us to acquire essential materials and state-of-the-art equipment that significantly enhance our students’ learning experience. Ala-Tom’s commitment to supporting education has not only improved the overall quality of our microbiology program but has also empowered our students with valuable technical applications in their academic journey. Funds provided were used to purchase items in four areas: bacterial media, bacterial stains, bacterial analysis, and general laboratory supplies.”

She continues, “Ensuring a well-running microbiology laboratory relies on having the proper supplies and tools, including essential personal protective equipment (PPE). Providing our students with adequate laboratory supplies has helped ensure seamless scientific experimentation. These resources have enabled our students to conduct experiments accurately, collect reliable data, and draw meaningful conclusions.”
