Cadet Martinez represents MMI at Cato Institute student conference

This summer Cadet Remso Martinez, from Charlie Company, had the honor of attending the Cato Institute's summer seminar on Political Economics. He earned the opportunity to attend this event by applying and being selected as a recipient of the Bastiat student scholarship. The seminar was held this past July in San Diego, California. He was one of 40 Bastiat scholarship recipients chosen from a pool of student applicants from around the world. The seminar provided students the opportunity to listen to lectures on subjects ranging from history, law, economics, and political science from prestigious academics from schools such as Georgetown University, Harvard, West Point, and others, and accomplished businessmen and women. Among the speakers were authors Tom G. Palmer (director of Cato University), Brian Doherty (senior editor at Reason Magazine), and professor Randy Barnett from Georgetown University.

During the seminar Cadet Martinez also had the opportunity to meet Dr. Doug Bustier, Iowa candidate for U.S. Senate, and former MMI Service Academy Program (SAP) cadet Mark Soan Kelsey (SAP class of 2007). As stated by Cadet Martinez, “Cato University was a rewarding experience that provided me an excellent understanding of free market economics, and the importance of liberty within civil society."
