MMI Breaks Ground on New Dining Hall

On Wed. Sept. 8 at 11:30 am, Marion Military Institute (MMI) conducted a public groundbreaking ceremony for its new Dining Hall facility, a $10.4 Million project. This groundbreaking signifies the first building construction that MMI has seen in 30 years on its historic campus. Special guests in attendance at the ceremony included Alabama Community College System (ACCS) leadership, MMI trustees, and elected officials at the city and state level. Speaking to the audience gathered under the tent adjacent to the construction site, Jimmy Baker, ACCS Chancellor, said of MMI: “This is the best economic development machine in this community. It spreads the word all the time. You have students who travel all over the world to serve in all kinds of roles. But they can tell the story of Marion Military Institute, and the community that gave me that opportunity.” Following the ceremonial dirt-shoveling by the project’s major players, the entire MMI Corps of Cadets conducted a pass in review, followed by a luncheon. Designed by Davis Architects of Birmingham, MMI’s new dining facility will be constructed by Amason Construction of Tuscaloosa, and the project is to be completed by Fall 2023.
