Brigadier General Gilland is the 77th Commandant of Cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Commissioned in 1990 from West Point as an Infantry officer he has served in a variety of tactical assignments in Air Assault, Mechanized Infantry, Armor, Ranger and Special Operations units and commanded at multiple levels throughout his career.
