MMI Cadet Named Coca-Cola Gold Scholar
MARION, Ala. - Marion Military Institute (MMI) sophomore Charles Sill of Partlow, Va., was recently selected as a 2013 Coca-Cola Gold Scholar.
Selection for this award was based on scores earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition, for which more than 1,800 applications were received this year. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Each Gold Scholar receives a $1,500 scholarship and a special medallion. Cadet Sill is the first ever recipient from MMI.
At MMI, Cadet Sill is enrolled in the Army ROTC Early Commissioning Program. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne School and Leader Development & Assessment Course. Within the Corps of Cadets, he serves in numerous leadership positions to include: XO, Bravo Company; 1SG, Ranger Challenge Team; and SFC, White Knights Precision Drill Team. He holds a 3.27 cumulative GPA and has consistently made the Dean’s List. His additional honors include the Legion of Valor Medal of Military Excellence and Citizenship Award.
After earning an associate’s degree from MMI, Cadet Sill plans to attend the University of North Dakota to complete a bachelor’s degree in International Studies. His ultimate goal is to become a Field Artillery Officer in the U. S. Army and progress into the Special Forces.
The 2013 Coca-Cola Gold, Silver and Bronze Scholars will be recognized at Phi Theta Kappa’s Annual Convention held April 4-6, 2013 in San Jose, California. Scholars will be recognized onstage at the Fourth General Session, and during a special Reception.
