Alabama Fire College Signs Agreement with MMI

MARION, Ala. – On Nov. 9, Tuscaloosa’s Alabama Fire College (AFC) signed a memorandum of agreement with Marion Military Institute (MMI) to provide students with opportunities to obtain national professional certifications. The collective goal for this new partnership is to improve the in-field employability of both school’s students. Beginning in fall 2017, AFC will provide instructors, equipment, training aids, and materials, etc. necessary for the conduct of AFC courses at MMI and will also process cadet applications for AFC courses. MMI will, in return, help market AFC national and state certifications to the MMI community while serving as a testing center and training location for AFC courses. Signing the agreement on the MMI campus were AFC Director Mr. Allan Rice and MMI President Col. David J. Mollahan, USMC (Ret). AFC guests were then invited to a luncheon hosted by MMI and the local Veterans Day parade that followed. Established in 1936, the AFC’s mission is to facilitate excellence in education, training, certification, and support services for the emergency response community. Founded in 1842 and a member of the Alabama Community College System since 2006, MMI educates and trains the Corps of Cadets in order that each graduate is prepared for success at four-year institutions, including the service academies, with emphasis on providing intellectual, moral-ethical, physical-athletic and leadership development experiences in a military environment. Both public institutions are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). AFC’s Mr. Rice and MMI’s Col. Mollahan sign an agreement between the two colleges, signaling a courses partnership.
