MMI Basketball on 13-game winning streak

With the Marion Military Institute Corps of Cadets in attendance for the annual "white-out" game, the men's basketball team did not disappoint the crowd.  The Tigers extended their win streak to 13 games after defeating ACCC North foe Shelton State Community College, 82-65.

Shelton State held an early lead, 9-8, during the first four minutes of play.  Unfortunately for the Buccaneers, that was their last lead of the game.  Marion pulled back ahead and extended the lead to double digits with under six minutes to play before halftime.  SSCC hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Tiger's halftime lead to 41-27.

Marion stayed focused early in the second half and built the lead to twenty points with ten minutes to play in regulation.  Christian Bradford and Ronnie Baylark led Marion with 22 and 20 points, respectively.  Miles Perdue added 10 points while teammates Quamauri Hardy and Dotson Griffin each finished with nine points.  Chase Garvin, Mike Nobles, and Charles Tripp had four points apiece.

Marion improves to 17-3 on the season and 6-0 in the ACCC North.  MMI will travel to Wadley, Alabama to play Southern Union State Community College Thursday evening (Feb. 4) in another tough ACCC North match-up.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Feb. 2 poll had MMI ranked at #21 in the nation. This is the first time that the MMI basketball program has been nationally ranked.
