USCG Commandant Admiral Zukunft returns to campus, awards USCG Academy appointments to deserving cadets

It's not often that a college hosts the most senior ranking officer from the U.S. Coast Guard, but MMI has done this twice. Admiral Paul Zukunft, Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard returned to the MMI campus on Friday, Jan. 15 (for the second year in a row) to address the Corps of Cadets, faculty and staff and meet with U.S. Coast Guard Academy candidates attending both MMI and Georgia Military College. During his presentation, he discussed global security matters ranging from drug cartels to Russian threats, as well as expanding his Arctic fleet.

A USCG Academy graduate himself, ADM Zukunft called 5 cadets forward to receive appointments to the USCGA class of 2020. Four were from MMI, with one representing Georgia Military College. Cheers from friends filled the Chapel as announcements were made!

Congratulations to Molly Dolan, Aaron Anthony, Travis Connelly, Caleb Patton and Christopher Shields on this great honor. They will begin their path as USCG officer candidates when they report to New London, CT, this summer.

MMI and GMC expect more appointments for their cadets later this spring, as both have successful Service Academy Programs.
