MMI hosts Main Street Alabama town hall meeting, sees impressive community turnout
On Wed. Jan. 11, Marion Military Institute hosted a town hall meeting featuring staffers from Main Street Alabama, an organization devoted to downtown revitalization. More than 100 local citizens filled the MMI chapel during an informational session aimed at letting the community learn more about the Main Street state and national program and its four-point approach: organization, promotion, economic vitality and design. Main Street Alabama staffers Mary Helmer and Trisha Black also gave examples of successful Main Street projects from other communities and emphasized the importance of hard work from community volunteers.
If Marion would like to move forward with the organization, the city would then apply to become a Main Street Alabama community. Only three communities are selected each year.
