Department Mission

  • Stimulate critical thought through inquiry-based approaches leading cadets in the exploration of societies, human endeavors, and human behavior
  • Engage cadets in a process of discovery by posing open-ended questions linked to major developments in the United States and global history
  • Form cadet critical thinking through scholarly inquiry, use of evidence, and propose their own arguments about the past, human thought, and human behavior
  • Recruit, retain, and advance faculty to provide cadets with vital background information, guide in the use of appropriate primary and secondary resources, and form critical thought through scholarly achievement
  • Produce cadets who are able to find, interpret, contextualize, analyze, and synthesize evidence as well as draw conclusions to make cogent oral and written arguments about issues and matters impacting the world around them
