Title IX

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.  Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance.  Title IX states that:

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

What is the Title IX Coordinator responsible for?

  • Overseeing all Title IX complaints and investigations to provide prompt, fair and equitable resolutions
  • Identifying and addressing any patterns or systemic problems that arise
  • Being available to meet with students, provide support and answer questions
  • Working with other college officials
  • Coordinating training, education and communication pertaining to Title IX
  • Ensuring that our institution carries out its Title IX responsibilities

NOTIFICATION OF MARION MILITARY INSTITUTE TITLE IX POLICY OF NON-DISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF SEX

As required by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Marion Military Institute (MMI) does not discriminate on the basis of sex in the education program or activity it operates. This requirement not to discriminate in the education program or activity extends to admission and employment.  MMI’s Non-Discrimination policy, procedures for reporting sex discrimination or sexual harassment and procedures for responding to complaints of sex discrimination and sexual harassment may be found on MMI’s website @ www.marionmilitary.edu, the student/cadet handbook, and employee handbook.  Any inquiries relating to MMI’s policy of non-discrimination, the reporting of complaints of sex discrimination or sexual harassment or MMI’s procedure for responding to such complaints should be directed to MMI’s Title IX Coordinator.  Any inquiries about the application of Title IX and 34 CFR Part 106 to MMI may be referred to MMI’s Title IX Coordinator or the Assistant Secretary or both. Persons or any specific class of individuals who believe they have been subjected to discrimination or harassment based on their race, color, national origin, age, disability, sex or other protected classification may, alone or with a representative, file a complaint with the United States of Education or with the College, or with both.  The complaint process for students relating to claims or discrimination or harassment may be found beginning on page 82 of the MMI Student Handbook.
